New Palestine High School will be making a number of adjustments to drop off, pick up, and parking procedures in 2020-21 due to the need to maintain social distancing guidelines during high-traffic times at school.
NPHS Associate Principal Amy Dawson and Community Relations Director Wes Anderson created this video to help parents navigate the new procedures:
Students and parents can no longer US 52 as an access point to campus. This area will be restricted to faculty and bus traffic only and closed during school hours.
Parent Drop Off and Pick Up:
All car traffic must enter campus from Gem. Rd. Parents dropping off in the morning or picking up in the afternoon must use the entrance by the bus garage (Victory Dr.).
During morning dropoff, parents must stage until their students are released at 7:45 a.m. This change is to help enforce social distancing by reducing the number of students in our buildings before the morning bell. Due to requirements for contact tracing at all times by the Hancock County Health Department, only bus riders and students participating in a before-school activity will be permitted inside the building before 7:45 a.m.
After students exit vehicles in the carline, parents will make a U-turn at the south gates and exit via School Street (the main entrance between NPE and the administration building).
This procedure will be identical for the afternoon pick up.
Student Drivers:
Students who drive to school must park in the admin lot south of the football field.
After parking, students will follow the southeastern edge of the football field to an area near the press box where they will safely cross and enter school at Door 1.
There will not be any paid “reserved” parking spots in 2020-21.
This change to student parking will be temporary. Upon completion of the first phase of the NPHS renovation project, additional parking lots will be available on the south and southeast sides of NPHS for student drivers.
Visitors:
All visitors must enter NPHS from the Gem Rd. entrance. The south half of the NPHS parking lot (near the pool) will be reserved for visitors during normal school hours.
After-School or Weekend Activities:
These restrictions only apply to normal school day hours. Events in the evening or on the weekend will not be restricted. All drivers may enter from either side and park at their convenience.
Questions about this new NPHS procedure should be directed to Mrs. Dawson or Mr. Mitchaner at NPHS.
