Early College FAQ

1. What is Early College?

New Palestine Early College is a small learning community at New Palestine High School that allows students to earn a 30 credit transfer certificate or a 60 credit associate’s degree while still in high school. Essentially, we are a college in a high school.

Small Learning Community

Early College (EC) admits approximately 60 students per year.  Students will have all of their core classes with the EC faculty and with other EC students.  The small learning community increases collaboration between faculty and leads to increased accountability and attention to students.

Early College Credits

New Palestine partners with Vincennes University to offer college classes to EC students in the high school. College classes are taught by a qualified and approved high school teacher. These classes are highly transferable to public and private colleges, in and out of state.

Early College Students

EC students strive to earn a college degree or transfer certificate over the course of their four years in high school. EC students are typically students who are:

  • Motivated to work hard in school

  • Students with good discipline records

  • Students with good attendance

  • Students with the academic grit to overcome social and academic barriers

  • First generation college students

  • Students who could use financial assistance to get started in college

2. Are credits able to transfer to other institutions?

Vincennes University has a 2 to 2 agreement with over 250 institutions that will accept their 2-year degree for students seeking to earn a Baccalaureate Degree by attending a 4-year institution for their final two years.

Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC)

The Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC) Certificate of Graduation is designed for students who are exploring program/major options in order to complete a degree at Vincennes University and for students who plan to transfer from VU to complete a degree elsewhere.

The STGEC allows students to identify their aptitudes and build an academic foundation that serves as the “first year” of coursework for a range of degree programs at Vincennes University, including associate and baccalaureate degrees. The STGEC gives students the opportunity to prepare academically and socially for college success in order to compete in a global workplace. Successful completion of the STGEC will be recognized for transfer to public institutions of higher education in Indiana, in compliance with Senate Enrollment Act 182 (2012).
